TOTAL OF SIX. DES MOINES AREA HOSPITALS ARE HAPPY TONIGHT. THEY RECEIVED THEIR FIRST SHIPMENTS TODAY OF THE NEW MODERNA VACCINE. KCCI’S CYNTHIA FODOR IS LIVE WITH THE DISTRIBUTION PLANS. CYNTHIA: THE HOSPITAL STAFF TELL ME THEY’RE EXCITED TO RECEIVE THE SECOND VACCINE, MODERNA, JUST A WEEK AFTER THE FIRST VACCINE, PFIZER, ARRIVED. THIS IS VIDEO OF THE MODERNA VACCINE ARRIVING AT UNITYPOINT HEALTH THIS MORNING AND BEING UNPACKED. THIS VACCINE IS EASIER TO STORE BECAUSE IT DOESN’T NEED TO BE FROZEN AT SUCH LOW TEMPERATURES AS THE PFIZER VACCINE. DOCTORS SAY THE REINFORCEMENTS CAN’T COME SOON ENOUGH, WITH NEARLY 7,000 HEALTH CARE WORKERS IN CENTRAL IOWA WHO NEED TO GET VACCINATED. >> WE HAVE GOT ABOUT 875 DOSES OF THE PFIZER ONE IN THE INITIAL GO AROUND, AND WE’RE FINISHING UP THE LAST FEW DOSES TODAY, S IT’S COMING JUST IN TIME, AND HOPEFULLY, WE CAN BEGIN VACCINATING WITH THE MODERNA SUPPLY AS EARLY AS TOMORROW. CYNTHIA: MERCY ONE EXPECTS TO GET NEARLY 1500 DOSES OF THE MODERNA VACCIN THAT’S TWICE AS MUCH AS THE PFIZER VACCINE THEY RECEIVED. BROADLAWNS ALSO RECEIVED ITS SHIPMENTS, AS WELL. HOPING TO START VACCINATING VETERANS AND HEALTH CARE WORKERS AT THEIR FACILITIES TOMORROW. THEY SAY IT IS LIKE HAVING HOPE DELIVERED. CYNTHI
