Model Juana Burga on Symbolic and Sentimental Jewelry
She wears jewelry to connect, empower, and to lift her spirits.
MAYORS
Juana Burga is regarded as one of Peru’s most influential women. The glamorous model, actress, and activist earned international recognition on the catwalk but out of the spotlight, she prefers a more laid-back lifestyle where jewelry are her talismans and style signature.
Growing up in Peru where jewelry plays a meaningful role in culture and rituals, Burga sees jewels as symbols that empower and connect, and during the pandemic they became even more important to her. That’s also why her latest project, shooting the campaign for Mayors, the celebrated 110-year-old American jewelry and watch retailer, spoke to her passions. The beautiful images, shot in the Los Angeles mountains, reflect Burga’s easy-going style with defining jewels—the kind of pieces that become part of a woman’s signature. Here, Burga shares how jewelry imbues meaning in her daily rituals, and why that’s especially significant right now.
