Maryland track and field junior pole vaulter Gwendolyn Zeckowski received the 2021 Wilma Rudolph Student-Athlete Achievement Award, which recognizes six student-athletes who have conquered various struggles while engaging in intercollegiate athletics.
“These student-athletes have overcome many obstacles in their lives, and demonstrated grit, resilience, determination, and strength. They are outstanding examples of the power of the human spirit, and we are proud to honor them,” Ursula Gurney, N4A President and Deputy Director of Athletics/SWA, said in a May 26 press release.
During the 2019 outdoor season, the South River High School athlete achieved multiple third-place finishes, captured seventh (3.57m) at the George Mason Spring Invitational and fourth (3.65m) at the Penn Relays. The pole vaulter also secured 19th (3.72m) at the Big Ten Championships.
