Indonesian Navy submarine KRI Nanggala sails in the waters off Tuban, East Java, Indonesia, as seen in this aerial photo taken from Indonesian Navy helicopter of 400 Air Squadron, in this Monday, Oct. 6, 2014 photo.
Rescue crews and search teams found parts of Muslim prayer mats believed to be from inside an Indonesian submarine that vanished in the Bali Sea earlier this week, indicating the vessel cracked open, killing everyone on board.
The nation’s navy on Saturday officially changed the status for the KRI Nanggala 402 from “sub miss” to “sub sank,” dashing any hope its 53 crew members would be found alive.
