James Gordon Thompson, whose name was synonymous with Miss Supertest, has died (May 13, 2021 at Parkwood Institute) at the age of 94. Born in London, Ontario, he attended Ridley College, the Royal Canadian Naval College, the University of Toronto (Engineering), and the University of Western Ontario (Business).
From 1968 to 1973, he was president of Supertest Petroleum, a company co-founded by his father, John Thompson.

A keen sportsman, James Thompson applied his engineering skills to the design of Miss Supertest lll, an unlimited class hydroplane speedboat that won three consecutive world championships (the Harmsworth Trophy). In addition, Miss Supertest ll achieved the world speed record in 1957.
