Stacey Hill Cooper's new year started off with a bang but not the kind she wanted. On Jan. 2, she was startled by a loud boom when someone speeding down the 3100 block of Richards Street totaled her parked car and drove off.
Roughly two years earlier, Cooper said the same thing happened across the street at her elderly mother's house, when a speeding driver totaled her mother's parked car.
Audrey White, who owns a group home for seniors along Richards Street, said she has seen hundreds of cars "flying" down the street.
White, a former Milwaukee Public Schools teacher and social worker, said the seniors she works with are afraid to walk outside. Both White and Cooper say they fear a speeding car will lose control and crash into them on the sidewalk.
