This year, the Passover season arrives as a record number of migrants congregated at our border, encouraged by the promise of a warmer embrace under the Biden administration. But like those who have attempted this crossing before, they are experiencing undo suffering and neglect as they search for better lives for themselves and their children.
We cannot sit and wait for this crisis to ease. From the Israelites fleeing Egypt via the Sea of Reeds to today’s migrants crossing the Rio Grande, refugees have been part of the sum of human existence. They will continue their perilous journeys and needless suffering unless we, as a society, recognize our obligations to them and this issue.
