Migrants and international justice: why the pressure is mounting

December 18 is International Migrants Day. There are growing initiatives to have crimes against these vulnerable populations qualified as crimes against humanity, sometimes war crimes. Nearly 23,000 migrants have died in the Mediterranean since 2014. Lawyer Jessica Lescs reminds us of the legal issues at stake, explains why states are in the hot seat and why it is hoped that the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court will take up their case.
