Michigan House leaders propose wide-ranging changes to government ethics laws

Michigan House leadership rolled out an array of proposed government ethics bills this week with buy-in from both parties and the group behind the state’s independent redistricting initiative.
In a Tuesday announcement, House Speaker Jason Wentworth and House Democratic Leader Donna Lasinski announced a sweeping set of proposed changes that if signed into law would subject Michigan lawmakers and top state officers to financial disclosure, prohibit lawmakers from voting on conflicts of interest and prevent exiting lawmakers from stepping through the “revolving door” into lobbying for two years.
