Hurricane Hilary, a category 3 on a scale of 5, was approaching the Baja California peninsula in northwestern Mexico on Saturday. It could be accompanied by heavy rainfall and flooding in this part of Mexico as well as in the southern state of California, in the United States. Hilary is moving northwest and the center of the storm is expected to reach Southern California overnight Sunday, according to the NHC. Mexico is hit by tropical cyclones every year on its Pacific and Atlantic coasts, usually between May and November.
