Nairobi, 6 October 2022 – Representatives of Member States, agencies, UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Major Groups and other stakeholders gathered in Nairobi and virtually for the first session of the ad hoc Open-Ended Working Group, established under United Nations Environment Assembly Resolution 5/8. The meeting marked the formal launch of the negotiation process to establish a science-policy panel on chemicals, waste and prevention of pollution, as requested earlier this year by the resumed session of the fifth United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA5.2).
