MELAKA: The state government plans to revive the now-defunct Road Safety Council (MKJR) after the state recorded a 200% increase in road fatalities in a single month.
Melaka police traffic chief Supt Hasan Basri Yahya had said on Saturday that there were 15 fatalities from road accidents in March compared to five in February.
There was a corresponding increase in road accidents, with 907 reported in February and 1,370 in March.
Melaka public works, transport, public amenities and infrastructure committee chairman Datuk Roslan Ahmad said that the MKJR could identify accident-prone areas and possibly prevent more deaths.
"I have proposed to Melaka Road Transport Department on my plans to revive MKJR and I have put forward the proposal to relevant stakeholders in the state," he said in an interview on Saturday (May 1).
