Kathleen Todd
Brief Biography: Kathy moved to Valdez in 1980 after upbringing in Oregon, New Jersey, and Washington, Pomona College in California, Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, and family practice residency in Seattle. She and her late husband Dr. Andy Embick raised two daughters here, who went from Valdez City Schools to their current endeavors as a general surgeon at Alaska Native Medical Center and an MSW with a subspecialty in dramatherapy practicing out of Hawaii. During her 40 years in Valdez she has been involved in Arts Council, community college teaching, Girl Scouts, synchronized swimming, various musical endeavors, kayaking, skiing, and bicycling for transportation. She has served on the school board since 2004. Besides operating a busy medical practice, trying to get some outside exercise consistently, and learning enough tech to play piano and sing for the church every Sunday on Zoom, she tries to stay in touch with public school students and parents through contacts at the office and volunteering at venues such as swim meets , Salmonberry, and high school music practice adjudications. She looks forward to getting back to skiing with the elementary students, giving talks to various classes, and judging science fair instead of helping give vaccinations!
