McElhinneys celebrates 50th anniversary
McElhinneys, the family-run Irish department store based in Ballybofey, County Donegal, is celebrating its 50th anniversary next month.

The independent department store, which was launched by eponymous founder John McElhinney, marks its official birthday on 4 May, 50 years since it first opened its doors in 1971.
Founder McElhinney, who started his empire selling clothing from a van back in the late 1960s, said he overcame floods, fire bombs and now the pandemic, to build a multi-award winning department store in the north-west of Ireland.

Now a "one-stop shop, with fashion, beauty, homeware, accessories, lingerie and bridal – all under one roof", the store says after an "unforgettable past year, the team is delighted to reach the 50-year milestone."
