AKWESASNE — The Akwesasne community is in mourning, following the passing Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) Kana:takon District Chief Darryl Lazore.
Lazore, a former ironworker in New York City, was approaching the end of his second elected term on the MCA. Within the last six years, he had focused much of his time to housing and public safety within Akwesasne.

“Chief Lazore was a strong advocate for community housing and loved our community,” MCA Grand Chief Abram Benedict told the Standard-Freeholder. “He was actively campaigning for a third term, doing what he loved to do, talking with people and listening to Kana:takon district needs. His passing is a great loss to the community and the district he loved serving. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
