Mayor lifts hiring freeze for city departments

In a report submitted to city council this week, Cambridge Mayor Tom Orr has lifted the hiring freeze put into effect at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, with some stipulations.
"As you are well aware, because of the situation we found ourselves in last year with COVID-19, I put into place a hiring freeze within the city. We were faced with many challenges to our budget and was one way to try and combat the strain upon our expenses," stated Cambridge Safety Director Rocky Hill as he read the report in the mayor's absence.
