Mostly forgotten today is the impact Maverick had on the Ford Motor Company when it was introduced 52 years ago.
Although it used the same platform and drivetrain that Falcon had used for almost a decade, Maverick was much more stylish, sporting a long hood and a short deck, as well as some âswoopyâ lines. It was exactly what Ford needed for 1970, and its sales were such that it helped the company beat Chevrolet in overall sales for that model year.
