MARSHALL ISLANDS "FAST-TRACKING" EU OPTIONS

MAJURO, Marshall Islands (August 10, 2001 – Marshall Islands Journal)---RMI officials are hoping to "fast-track" funding and training opportunities with the European Union, including involvement by the European Investment Bank.
RMI special envoy to the EU Surendra Sharma said that in the next few months, he is hopeful that President Kessai Note can make a visit to EU headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. He is confident that such a visit will have a very positive impact on EU agencies responses to the RMI in the future.
In addition, he aims to organize attachments by RMI ministry and agency staff in Brussels to expose them to the EU system, so that local officials develop a network of contacts in the EU, which will help to speed action on development assistance.
