On Thursday night people said goodbye to 2020 and gave a warm welcome to 2021. There are good reasons for both: We havenât seen a year like this since 1968, when one earth-shaking event followed another, and because years like this tend to only come around once per century, we have every reason to believe 2021 will be better.
As Colin Powell said, âPerennial optimism is a force multiplier.â
Few will argue that 2020 was anything but a bad year. We are living through a pandemic the like of which hasnât been seen for 100 years. Unemployment is high and at least 20 million people are âfood insecure.â We witnessed the worst stock market crash ever. The killing of an unarmed Black man brought millions of people into the streets in protest. We saw a presidential election in which the losing candidate has yet to acknowledge his loss.
