Marilyn Hagerty: Grand Forks Park District cares for more than 31,000 trees
Taking care of a couple trees is enough for most homeowners. The park district, in a recent survey, takes care of 31,000 trees on berms and parks in Grand Forks. In new neighborhoods, they are finding a need for trees.

The snow is (mostly) gone. The dogs are out. Even with the coronavirus setback, it’s springtime in Grand Forks.
The forestry department will be planting about 1,000 trees — mostly ash — this year. Sean Lee works with a crew of 10 full-time employees in the city’s forestry department. He says ash trees have by and far become the most common since trees were ravaged in recent years by Dutch Elm disease.
