Margaret Been Hull passed away on Dec. 14, 2020, in Greenville South Carolina.
She was born May 27, 1925, to Nellie Emily Daetwyler Been and Oath Washington Been in Pickens.
“I lived to teach. My family was my life.” Margaret gave a love that was selfless and valued her family above all else. She valued education, hard work, lifelong learning and left an imprint on family, friends and students. Margaret graduated from Pickens High School, received her B.S. degree in elementary education from West Virginia Wesleyan, and her Master of Science degree in early childhood education from the University of Delaware. From the age of 6, Margaret knew she wanted to teach and was able to live out her dream. In 1944, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Silica. In 1963, she moved her family to Delaware to teach first grade. For 8 years during her teaching career, she supervised student teachers for the University of Delaware. In 1999, she moved to Greenville, South Carolina to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Margaret was initiated into Epsilon Chapter and Delta Kappa Gamma in 1971 and remained active in the teaching sorority at both the Chapter and State levels throughout her life. Margaret had a strong faith and was very active in her churches, New Castle Presbyterian, New Castle Delaware and Westminster Presbyterian Church in Greenville, South Carolina, where she served as Deacon and Elder; she was also very active in the Children’s Christian Education.
