VACCINE HEROES: One of Teesdale’s oldest residents, Margaret Swan, 105, was at Richardson Hospital, in Barnard Castle, to get her second coronavirus vaccine dose last week. Also pictured are carer Monika Allen and lead GP for the day Dr Heather MacConachi
THE sun was shining and one of Teesdale’s oldest residents was in good spirits as she arrived at Richardson Hospital, in Barnard Castle, to receive her second dose of the coronavirus vaccine last week.
Margaret Swan, from Wycliffe, was delighted with the service she received and hopes the vaccination programme will help keep her healthy. By chance the 105-year-old, accompanied by her live-in carer Monika Allen, was given the jab by her former GP, Dr John White, who along with many other medical staff in the dale, has come out of retirement to help with the mammoth vaccination programme. Mrs Swan said: “It was great. It’s good that it’s going to keep me healthy. I come from a large family and one thing with large families is they are full of laughter so I’m looking forward to the time I can have them over again.”
