Many Oregon tenants are still struggling with rent; state assistance is coming

A small but significant portion of Oregon tenants were unable to pay rent on time in January or make up their missed payments during the month, a sign that more renters may be taking on debt as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
Nearly 1 in 5 renters in the Portland area, and a slightly smaller share statewide, had not paid their rent by Jan. 6, according to RealPage, a company that provides property management software. Most made up their missed payments by the end of the month, but roughly 7% of Oregon renters still had not paid their rent by Jan. 27, according to the company.
