Manchester directors ask library board to envision 21st century facility

MANCHESTER — After acknowledging the importance of a new public library, the Board of Directors this week agreed to task the Public Library Board with a fact-finding mission exploring what a 21st century facility would look like.
The Mary Cheney Library building on Main Street is aging but continues to be a fixture in town and heavily used, even during the pandemic. On Tuesday, the board discussed ways to improve the library and asked the library board to begin talks about the need and feasibility of building a new library in town.
The board asked General Manager Scott Shanley to prepare a “to-do” list and resolution for the Public Library Board ahead of the next meeting in January. Talks for a new or upgraded library have happened in the past, but no large overhaul of the facility has taken place.
