Manchester United’s schedule of four fixtures in seven days is “not physically possible” the head of world players’ union FIFPro has warned.
United’s postponed match against Liverpool was rescheduled for Thursday, May 13, which means the club will play on May 6, 9 and 11 before the Premier League clash.
On Thursday FIFPro published a report on player workload which found that top footballers in Europe have been playing up to 80 per cent of their minutes in the ‘critical zone’, which is when they are at the most risk of suffering injury.
What has been said?
After the publication of the report on player workload, FIFPRO general secretary Jonas Baer-Hoffmann said that the congested fixture list was to blame for the rising number of injuries in top-level football.
