LOCAL BEACH. >> BUT THANKS TO A STRANGER THIS STORY HAS A HAPPY ENDING. THE EYEOPENER’S KATIE THOMPSON REPORTS. >> IT WAS A DEVASATING END TO A NEW HAMPSHIRE BEACH DAY FOR CYRAN WILLIS. >> AS SOON AS WE GOT BACK TO THE CAR I CHECKED MY POCKET WHERE I , HAD PUT IT AND IT WASNT THERE. >> HE’S TALKING ABOUT A RING. BUT NOT JUST ANY RING A CLASS RING FROM HIS ALMA MATER THE PRESITIGIOUS MILITARY SCHOOL, NORWICH UNIVERSITY >> IT’S A HUGE TRADITION AT THE SCHOOL. IT DATES BACK TO, LIKE, 1923. I WAS PRETTY CRUSHED. I DIDN’T THINK I WOULD EVER SEE IT AGAIN. >> BUT 3 MONTHS LATER A TOTAL STRANGER, USING A METAL DETECTOR ON HAMPTON BEACH, STRUCK A TARGET. >> I STARTED DIGGING. AND IT TOOK ME A WHILE BECAUSE IT WAS DOWN IN THE WET SAND MORE THAN A FOOT. >> BRIAN KNOWLTON CLEANED IT OFF AND FOUND CYRAN’S NAME ENGRAVED INSIDE AND SO BEGAN HIS JOURNEY ON SOCIAL MEDIA TO CONNECT THIS RING TO ITS RIGHTFUL OWNER. >> I FINALLY SENT HIM A LENGTHY MESSAGE TO TELL HIM THAT I BELIEVE I HAD FOUND HIS CLASS RING. >> FOR BRIAN, THAT MISSION HIT CLOSE TO HOME. >> I’M A VETERAN MYSELF, AND I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT HE GOT THE RING BACK >> CYRAN SAYS HE WAS SHOCKED TO READ THE MESSAGES, EVEN NERVOUS TO MEET UP. BUT THROUGH THE REUNION BOTH MEN REALIZED THEY HAD QUITE A BIT IN COMMON. HE DEFINITELY UNDERSTOOD THE IMPORTANCE OF IT AND THE TRADITIONS OF A MILITARY SCHOOL AND THE ARMY. I AM HUMBLED THAT BRIAN WOULD GO OUT OF HIS WAY TO FIND ME. >> BRIAN HAS BEEN METAL
