The sound of gunfire mixed with that of students Thursday afternoon after a man was shot to death on Woodbine Street, just two blocks from Andrew Jackson High School's basketball courts, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.
Officers and rescue units were called to the 300 block of Woodbine Street about 3:15 p.m., Sgt. Adam Blinn said. That is where they found a 39-year-old man dead on the side of the road.
"We have no suspect information and we have no witnesses to the actual incident," Blinn said.
Detectives are interviewing neighbors and looking for surveillance video.
With other recent shooting deaths in the general area west of North Main Street in the past month, Blinn said his squad will compare notes with other homicide detectives to see if there's any connection.
