A BASE jumper was injured Sunday after his parachute failed while jumping off a cliff near Littlefield in the northwestern part of Arizona, officials said.
A 33-year-old man, who has not been identified, was BASE jumping from a cliff north of Interstate 15 near the Virgin River Gorge on the Arizona Strip, according to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.
During his second jump off a cliff, the man's BASE jump parachute failed, resulting in a severe injury when he landed, officials said.
Search and rescue from Mohave County and Washington County in Utah and a helicopter from St. George Intermountain Life Flight responded to the incident and found the man in a "technically challenging" area to access. The Arizona Department of Public Safety also responded to the scene with a helicopter.
