CARTERET, NJ — A 75-year-old died in a Carteret house fire Tuesday, a spokesman for the town confirmed to Patch.
The fire broke out at 4:50 p.m. Tuesday in a small home on the 100 block of Lowell Street in Carteret, said the Middlesex County prosecutor.
Firefighters entered the home and pulled a 75-year-old man out to safety, but he later died from smoke inhalation, said Carteret spokesman Jon Salonis.

The man has been identified as Mark Levinzon, who lived in the home. He was unresponsive when firefighters pulled him out.
The exact cause of death remains undetermined pending the completion of an autopsy by the Middlesex County Regional Medical Examiner's Office. Also, what caused the fire has not been released.
