#AM_Equality: HRC Mourns Jahaira Dealto; ‘Queer Love in Color’ photo book celebrates diverse LGBTQ relationships
HRC MOURNS JAHAIRA DEALTO, COMMUNITY ADVOCATE AND TRANSGENDER WOMAN OF COLOR KILLED IN BOSTON: HRC is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jahaira DeAlto, a 42-year-old transgender woman of color, who was killed on May 2 in Boston, Massachusetts. Jahaira was a well-known and beloved transgender advocate, advocate for survivors of domestic and sexual violence and member of the ballroom community in the Boston area.“In the last few days and weeks, we’ve received reports of numerous transgender people who have been killed,” said HRC Director of Community Engagement for the Transgender Justice Initiative Tori Cooper (@MsToriCooper1). “Every time a transgender or gender non-conforming person’s life is cut short, it is a tragedy. Jahaira was an integral member of many communities in Boston, legendary for ‘Everyday Realness’ in the ballroom community, and she will be greatly missed.” More from HRC.
