Global Lyme Disease Treatment Market – Insights
Transmission of the bacterium –
Borrelia burgdorferi through bites of infected adult black-legged ticks can cause Lyme disease. The transmission can take place if the tick is attached to the host body for 36 to 48 hours. The northeastern, mid-Atlantic, and north-central areas of the U.S. witness Lyme disease due to blacklegged ticks, whereas western black-legged ticks spread the disease in the regions along the Pacific Coast. Fever, headaches, swollen lymph nodes, chills, fatigue, muscle and joint aches, and characteristic skin rash (erythema migrans) are some of the early symptoms of Lyme disease. Avoiding treatment can lead to further discomfort such as intermittent pain in muscles, tendons, joints, and bones, coupled with severe headaches, neck stiffness, arthritis with severe joint pain, increased heart palpitations or an irregular heartbeat, nerve swelling in knees, facial palsy, pain, and inflammation of the brain and spinal cord. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), erythema migrans affects around 70% to 80% of infected people, worldwide.
