UPDATE 1.45PM, SATURDAY: A young driver involved in a train collision Friday morning is reported to be in a stable condition.
The 24-year-old man was driving the Landcruiser west on Sarina-Homebush Road near Rosella when the car and train collided.
He was taken to Mackay Base Hospital after the crash.
An MBH spokeswoman said the Landcruiser driver was in a stable condition.
Senior Sergeant Robson said the Landcruiser was a write-off with sand scattered on the tracks to clean up the spillage.
"He was very lucky," Sergeant Robson said.
A police spokesman said the railway boom gate was destroyed.
