Eversource is eying the use of a new type of “smart electric meter” that would be able to provide customers with real-time information and billing alerts that they claim would help customers trim energy costs. The new cutting edge technology… according to Eversource… would also mean crews would be dispatched faster after a power outage, and customers would be able to have better information about when their power would be restored too. The utility has made a request to the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority to make the switch, and now expects a decision from the authority by this Thursday.
