Freedom Bank of Southern Missouri has confirmed that one of its data vendors, American Bank Systems (ABS), was victimized by a cybercriminal where certain systems of ABS were infected with malware, resulting in a data breach.
“Although Freedom Bank of Southern Missouri has no evidence of identity theft or fraud as a result of this incident, we have proactively increased security on all existing accounts through heightened monitoring and extra verification steps for our valued customers,” a press release from President and CEO Stan Kelley and CFO Ben Lindley said.
Immediately after receiving notice on Oct. 30 from ABS, Freedom began its process of working around the clock to get customer notices out through ABS as quickly and completely as possible. ABS has attempted to send the notice letter to all customers affected by the breach.
