SOME CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVISTS IN ALABAMA FEEL INTIMIDATED BY A BILL PROPOSED IN THE STATE LEGISLATURE ACCORDING TO A COUPLE OF LOCAL ORGANIZERS THE MEASURE CRIMINALIZES THE RIGHT TO PEACEFULLY PROTEST WVTM 13’S BREA DOUGLAS. SPOKE WITH THEM ABOUT THEIR CONCERNS. NEARLY A YEAR AGO. WE SAW PROTESTS IN DOWNTOWN BIRMINGHAM AFTER THE DEATH OF GEORGE FLOYD HUNDREDS MARCHED AGAINST RACIAL INJUSTICE. HOPING TO SPARK. BLACK LIVES MATTER ORGANIZER KARA MCCLURE SAYS HOUSE BILL 4:45 SEEKS TO STOP THE VOICE OF ACTIVISTS. THEY WANT TO MAINTAIN THAT POWER OVER OUR BODY AND CONTROL WHAT WE DO AND SAY THEY ARE IN FACT, SHE WAITED WITH INCARCERATING BLACK BODIES AND AND PEOPLE OF COLOR IF THE BILL PASSES IT WOULD QUOTE AMEND THE CRIMES OF RIOT AND INCITING TO RIOT AND WOULD ESTABLISH THE CRIMES OF AGGRAVATED RIOT AND AWFUL TRAFFIC INTERFERENCE END QUOTE AND VIOLATORS COULD GET JAIL TIME CAMILLE BENNETT LEADER OF THE ORGANIZATION CALLED SAY SOMETHING SAYS THE BILL IS NOT SPECIFIC ENOUGH SOMEONE WITH THE INTENTIONS OF COMING OUT AND PEACEFULLY PROTESTING COULD HAVE OUTSIDE AND AGITATORS OR PEOPLE WHO WERE PLANTED AT THE PROTEST THEN IT SAYS THE BILL IS DESIGNED TO MAKE PROTESTERS FEARFUL EVEN IF THEY’RE PEACEFUL, BUT MCCLURE WON’T LET IT DETER HER FROM FIGHTING FOR WHAT SHE BELIEVES IN. I DON’T THINK IT’S GOING TO STOP US FROM I CRY OUR CRY OF INEQUITIES PROTEST GAVE US THAT RIGHT TO VOTE. AFTER 196 AND SO TO EXPECT FOR A BILL TO STOP A MOVEMENT THAT THAT IS JUST RIDICULOUS. CIVIL RIGHTS GROUPS WILL BE IN MONTGOMERY TOMORROW MORNING PROTESTING AGAINST HOUSE BILL 4:45. I REACHED OUT TO ONE OF THE SPONSORS OF THE BILL REPRESENTATIVE ALAN TREADAWAY FROM BIRMINGHAM FOR A COMMON BUT NEVER HEARD B
