After Lithuania decided to ban flights over Belarus, airlines are assessing the additional costs they will incur rerouting their planes around the neighbouring country. Flying times to some destinations may increase by up to 30 minutes.
The Lithuanian government decided on Monday to bar the country's airports to planes crossing the Belarusian airspace. The ban came into effect at 03:00 local time on Tuesday morning and means that flights from Belarus are banned, while planes from other countries need to reroute in order to avoid flying over the country.
