This panel brings together two writers and intellectuals who have written about the current Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
Panelists:
Andrei Kurkov is a Leningrad-born journalist and writer whose book “Death and the Penguin” became an international bestseller. His new novel “Grey Bees” on the war in Donbas was published by Hachette press in the UK in 2021 and will be forthcoming in the US in 2022. He lives in Kyiv with his British wife and their three children.
Olena Stiazhkina is a Ukrainian writer, publicist, and historian. Her most recent bi-lingual novel “The death of Cecile the Lion was not in vain” draws on her experience as a person displaced by the war. Olena left her native Donetsk in 2014 after it was occupied by Russia-controlled forces. She currently lives in Kyiv. 
Discussant: Maria Genkin: Born and raised in Lviv, Maria works on a variety of projects in education and culture. Maria has served on the Board of Joseph Brodsky Fellowship Fund and now serves on the board of Razom for Ukraine, a non-profit with a mission to unlock the potential of Ukraine.
