The batches came in and nobody knew where they came from. We have been denied observing in critical places in georgia. There was halting for hours and hours on election night. They suddenly appeared and they all had the name biden on them. It is a little strange. I challenged joe and every democrat to verify that they only want legal votes. I think they should use the word legal. We want a legal vote count. We want openness and transparency, no secret counter rooms, no mystery ballots, no illegal ballots being cast after election day. They do not want votes cast after election day. They want the process to be an honest one. We want an honest election and an honest count. We want honest people working back there. It is a very important job. That is the way this country will win. We think we will win the election very easily. There will be a lot of litigation. We have so much evidence, so much proof. Perhaps it will end up at the highest court in the land. We think there will be a lot of litigation. We cannot have an election stolen like this. I have been talking about this for many months. I have said very strongly, mailin ballots will end up being a disaster. Small, very easy elections were disasters. This is a largescale version and it is getting worse and worse every day. We are hearing horror stories. We cannot let that happen to the United States of america. It is not a question of who wins. We cannot let that happen to our country. We cannot be disgraced by having Something Like this. It will be hopefully cleared up, maybe soon. It will probably go through a legal process. I have claimed certain states and he is claiming states. Ultimately, i feel judges will have to rule. There has been a lot of shenanigans. We cannot stand for that in our country. Thank you very much. If you are just joining us, we have been listening to President Donald Trump talking at the white house, making his first statement since election day. He is stating that he has won the election. Making unsubstantiated claims that there are major problems with the voting and alec counting. Ballot counting. He said if you count the legal votes, he has already won. He is saying he has been cheated out of the election. Saying there would be a lot of litigation to come. Lets go to our White House Correspondent who has been listening into that press conference. Lets start off with the point he made right at the very beginning about counting the legal votes. If we count of the legal votes, he said, i have easily won. Reporter i will beg to differ on that. I think it is important as journalists to not rush and pronounce judgments. This feeds into a partisan narrative. I have tried to avoid it. When you say without evidence, that is not true. The white house has been putting forward evidence for weeks. Whether or not it is reported is another matter. In terms of unsubstantiated, we heard the president giving a number of examples. To say that it is unsubstantiated would not be fair. I think as journalists we would like to let our viewers make that pronouncement. Lets go through what he had to say. With respect to how he is making these allegations of voter fraud , some of what he is raising he has challenged in the courts and won. You heard the president talking about how all he is looking for is transparency. So both a democrat and a republican can watch these votes being counted. He won that victory in pennsylvania in allowing them to get closer. The bottom line is, before, it was almost three times that. It is hard to be an election observer when you are that far away. Democrats are challenging that. The president is raising the question, why would you challenge wanting to see transparency . In that case, the president has given a very concrete example of how he feels he has substantiated the claim that this is potentially a way to obscure certain votes or put them in another candidates favor. Another point we have to recognize and all of this, as the president was speaking, it was noted that a number of American Networks decided not to cover his press conference. This is remarkable. That there are networks choosing not to listen to one of the candidates. That is where the president is valid in his argument that there is a media in the United States, on both sides, that is in favor of one camp or the other. You have to question, is this objectivity . Transparency . The president as you and i talked before, he spoke. He brought out that the pollsters were wrong. There is a lot of soulsearching going on in the United States about how this could possibly happen again. The president is using that as another example of evidence of the points he is trying to make. That he has been accused of suppressing the vote in the United States. The republicans have been trying to suppress peoples right to vote. This election, in more than 20 years, americans have had more time to cast their ballots than we have ever seen before. In some cases, he wants to see the counting stop on election day. He has been unsuccessful because the Election Officials are saying, if this is a legitimate valid, people ballot, people should have the right to counted. Count it. Because there are so many different systems and no standardization, this is the problem, that people do not have faith in their voting process. One other point he talked about, we are talking about transparency. It is highly questionable why some voting officials might want to put paper over the windows. Why they might want to make people observe with binoculars. This is going to not facilitate seeing a ballot. The president s right when he talks about detroit and philadelphia. There has been a history in those cities in the past of corruption, particularly when it comes to city finances and elections of police officials. I will not go through all of the cases. As journalists, we have to let the facts stand. Let the world decide what they want to believe. In terms of putting forward evidence, there has been evidence put forward. Whether or not people except that evidence is for our viewers and voters to decide. Anchor you make some good points. No doubt will be we will be speaking to you again. Ballot counting is still going on. Joe biden is closing the gap. In the west, he is clinging to a small lead. He has urged patients for the final vote. Lets go to our correspondent in delaware. We heard from biden about an hour ago. Reporter the polar opposite of what we just heard. Joe biden has made it clear that he wants every vote to be counted. He is saying, everybody has to be patient. And wait for that result to happen. Biden was trying to have a tone of unity. He is saying not to claim victory. To wait until all of the results are in and counted. This is what he had to say. Each ballot must be counted. That is what we are seeing. Democracy is sometimes messy. It sometimes requires a little patience as well. That patience has been rewarded for more than 240 years. We continue to feel very good about where things stand. We have no doubt that when the count is finished, we will be declared the winners. I ask everyone to stay calm. The process is working. Reporter joe biden framing this process in a much wider context. Insisting it is not just about the selection. This election. It is about a concept of democracy. It must not be seen outside of that context. He is attempting to play down the bitterness of the partisan divide that has intensified over the past four years. Also staying away from inflammatory charges, such as votes suddenly being found. President trump ignoring the fact that these are not votes that are simply being found. They were delivered according to the laws in any particular state. Some may be arriving after election day but postmarked before the election. It is not a question of votes suddenly being found. Joe biden very clearly at attempting to retain a sense of calm. And a sense of dignity at a time when dignity appears to be somewhat absent. Anchor many thanks. Lets get the very latest on the results in pennsylvania. I believe 94 of the estimated vote has been tallied. Pennsylvania could be quite the states to watch out for state to watch out for. We could get a result relatively soon. Reporter the secretary of state here in the commonwealth of pennsylvania says she does hope we have a result tonight. I want to set the scene as to where i am. Some of the very colorful costumes that might pass behind me. That building is where there they are counting the vote. We have a couple of trumps supporters separated by a lot of other people. They have a sound system. I did just see a couple of people dancing in the street. That would explain the music. We are waiting for official results from the secretary of state. Their website has been very slow. There are so many people going on it. We are Getting Better numbers from the New York Times and associated press. They have been doing this for quite a while. Trump now leads by just 64,000 votes. The New York Times says it is 74,000. We were seei him ahead by 700,000 on election night. We see a steady decline in that number every hour that is passing. They will be counting late into the night to hope to get to some kind of number. This is the big prize. It does not seem that President Trump can get another term without pennsylvania. Joe biden, this would be it. It would put him way over 270. This is a big deal. The Biden Campaign feels very confident. They are looking at hundreds of thousands of ballots still coming in. They are coming and mostly from city centers that tend to vote democratic. I know journalists are not all that good at math. But it does appear that in pennsylvania, he has the edge. His supporters are partying in the streets. Anchor georgia has become the unexpected tossup for donald trump, with a joe biden closing in on his lead. We have the latest on the race from georgia. Reporter georgia is one of those states that not many people thought would even be at play. But here we are. We have seen that state as a republican state for decades. The last democrat who won was blue bill clinton back in 1992. You can see the gap between right and and trump narrowing. What is important is where the votes are coming from. They are from counties that tend to lean democratic. The stakes could not be higher. The gap could not be narrower. Officials in georgia say they may be counting some of those absentee ballots into friday. Still a great deal at stake in the state of georgia. Here we are. Anchor election workers in georgia say it is unclear how much longer they will take. We anticipate having the count done on the legal date for certification, which is 10 days after the election. We cannot know how long the process will take. We will have clarity on the outcomes of these elections as soon as possible. You have so many elections being so close. We are trying to get all of the legal votes counted accurately so we can have the right results. Anchor two of the other states we are watching closely are arizona and nevada. We are joined from los angeles. Bring us up to date with those states. Reporter in nevada, bidens lea d has increased to more than 10,000 votes. The secretary of state says 190,000 ballots remain to be counted. 90 of those come from clark county. It is the Population Center of nevada. It is where las vegas is located. And several other cities. That is where the majority of these mailin ballots yet to be counted are coming from. Like many other cities around the country, we have seen philadelphia, detroit, and so forth, city dwellers tend to vote democratic. Many of these votes are believed to be biden votes. The Trump Campaign has filed a suit to stop the count, alleging, without much evidence, that there were irregularities with ballots being cast on behalf of people who are dead or who have left the state of nevada. The clark county registrar said in a news briefing earlier today he is not aware of improper ballots being processed. Nevada has come in for some criticism over the slowness of its counting process. But he said his speed is not their objective. Their objective is accuracy and counting all legitimate votes. Many legal analysts have opined that President Trumps legal challenges lack merit. Another thing to point out, as we were just alluding to, there is a very decentralized system in the United States or counting votes. For counting votes. Here in california, if the votes are male and mail0iin, they have to be received by the end of election day. It is not until november 17 that those votes can no longer be counted. There are similar deadlines in other states. That is by law. Those are state laws. That is not something that has been invented for the election of 2020. In arizona, the vote totals are tightening a bit in trumps favor. He still trails by 68,000 votes. 88 of the votes have been counted. We hope to get some new numbers out of arizona later today, maybe within an hour or two. The secretary of state says there is somewhere around 450,00 0 ballots yet to be tabulated. Those come from phoenix and the surrounding suburbs. The bulk of them are expected to be counted by the weekend. The final, final vote tally is still some days away in the states. Anchor many thanks.
