LINCOLN – Lincoln is making changes to its police hiring practices in an effort to secure a larger pool of candidates to replace departing department members.
The changes, brought forward by Town Council President Keith Macksoud this week, will be made to chapter 44 of Lincoln’s town code, which references qualifications for patrol officers and procedures for promoting officers.
Prior to the changes, potential hires for the Lincoln Police Department were required to meet the following requirements: A physical examination, with a maximum of 10 points awarded; a written examination, with a maximum of 45 points allowed; and an oral examination, with a maximum of 45 points allowed.
