Some aldermen and business groups had said the rule would give bars and restaurants an unfair advantage.

Facing weeks of backlash from some aldermen and retailers, Mayor Lori Lightfoot has scaled back her plans to stop liquor sales at 10pm and is proposing a midnight curfew instead.
In a statement, the mayor said she would directly introduce a revised ordinance to the City Council’s License Committee on Thursday to allow alcohol sales until midnight from businesses with a package goods license. She had initially proposed the curfew to address “quality of life” concerns near liquor stores raised by police and residents.
