In the
Men in Black sci-fi comedy movies, we learn that the Earth has been infiltrated by a startling array of aliens who live among us in disguise. But we also learn that the public is kept in ignorance of this covert occupation.
Because whenever a member of the civilian population happens to witness an outbreak of alien activity, the men in black whip out a special little gizmo about the size of a fat pen, tell the civilian to look at it, then set off a flash that wipes the memory. The gadget is called a neuralyser.
