Schools should limit screen time
Collier County School District should be commended for educating our children during one of the most challenging periods in recent history. Computer-based learning was fast-tracked, in many cases to limit contact to minimize the risks of spreading illness. But, is this reliance on computer-based learning now here to stay? Screens can play a role in the classroom, but overuse of screen time has many proven detrimental effects on general health, mental health, and brain functions necessary for learning. Furthermore, often computer-based learning is superficial, and the supposed benefits of "differentiated learning” through the use of technology are elusive.
