Letter: Sees supporting evidence for Columbus’ nickname

I could not agree more with Slim Smith that Columbus lives up to it’s “Friendly City” nickname (Slimantics, July 7). I also see it every day. My neighbors are a huge part of that; they have shown me how to be a better neighbor.
So many people in this town are also great “neighbors.” I have daily encounters with people I barely know that enrich both my day and my life. Sometimes it’s the Kroger checker bending over backwards to help, other times it’s the people at my doctor’s office who are genuinely glad to see me (it’s mutual, too). Other times it’s the people who find me out walking a dirt road and stop to see if I need help or the many brief but enriching conversations with random Columbians wherever I go. People in this town are just that way.
