We saw those odds play out this week as billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott doled out millions of dollars to organizations — specifically $640 million to 361 organizations throughout the United States. When the call was sent out that her organization, Yield Giving, would be donating monies, it was originally decided that 250 nonprofit organizations would each receive $1 million. However, after her review team received 6,000 applications, she chose to donate to 361 due to the overwhelming response to the remarkable and instrumental work these organizations were involved in.
