A Custer speaks
Chip Custer and his wife are retired and living in Arizona. He has visited Monroe “countless” times and given talks as well as participated in Custer events. He is well aware of the most recent controversy surrounding his ancestor, the general. Mr. Custer wrote three columns about his well-known name and what he thinks of those who want the statue moved or the Custer removed from the Monroe community.
So what is the cancel culture really all about? George Orwell stated it best in his classic novel, “1984”: The goal has been accomplished when “…Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book has been re-written, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street and building has been renamed… nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”
