Why do so many of us cry when happy?
I was on the verge of tears all day Wednesday, Inaugural Day, and they finally spilled over at 10 o’clock as I watched the First Family stand on the White House balcony marveling at the spectacular bursts of fireworks against the brilliant blackness of the clear night sky.
It wasn’t a sobbing, shuddering, ugly kind of crying. I was smiling as tears silently rolled down my face. So many waited so long for such a moment, and some never thought they’d see a day like this.
