Rosal has again been chosen by the United Nations, Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations (UNESCO) as one of the most outstanding city chief executives in the country. Rosal bagged the same UNESCO award in 2018. The National Coordinating Body of UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines, Inc. (NCBUCPI) sent a letter to Rosal dated Nov. 29, 2021, signed by its president, Prof. Ronel Villanueva, and chairperson Dr. Serafin Arviola Jr., informing that he is one of the 2021 Outstanding UNESCO Club public servant awardees in the "Good Governance" category. Rosal, in an interview on Wednesday, said he was invited by UNESCO to virtually attend the 2021 International Assembly of Youth for UNESCO (Y4U) and awarding ceremony on December 12 via Zoom to be hosted by the Philippine National Commission of UNESCO. He said the prestigious award was the result of the city government's implementation of programs and projects through the synergy of the members of the city council, department heads, and the entire workforce of the local government unit regarding solid waste management, infrastructure development, risk reduction management, and improvement in the tourism industry, culture, bio-diversity, and educational system. Rosal said the award would usher investment opportunities to improve the social progress and economic expansion of the city that would surely provide more job opportunities to residents here. He said his "first award from the UNESCO as the most outstanding mayor in the country took place in 2018 and the second one will be given this Dec. 12, 2021." Rosal recalled that he first received the good governance award from Professor Shabaz Khan, regional director of the Science Bureau for Asia and the Pacific and UNESCO Representative for Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Timor Leste, and the Philippines during the 2018 International Assembly of Youth for UNESCO. UNESCO is an agency of the United Nations tasked to contribute to the building of peace as well as work on poverty eradication, sustainable development, and intellectual dialogue through education, science, culture, communication, and information.
