Monday meeting
KEY ACTION: In a 2-1 vote, agreed to move forward with increasing the motor vehicle license tax.
DISCUSSION: Trustee Shawn Lockhart cast the dissenting vote, saying he didn’t want to burden vehicle owners with another tax as the nation comes out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Two public hearings on the $5 increase will be held before July 1. Dates have not yet been scheduled for those hearings. If approved by the trustees, the additional tax revenue would not be collected until July 2022.
OTHER ACTION:
In a 2-1 vote, with trustee Les Kamph dissenting, agreed to spend $7,200 to conduct a special election Aug. 3. Two five-year renewal fire levies will be on the ballot. If approved by voters, a 0.5-mill levy would raise just over $77,000 a year, and a 1.9-mill levy would generate $293,250 annually, according to the Stark County Auditor's Office.
