Todd suffered a fractured hip and an acute subdural hemorrhage of the brain. She was taken to hospital, where she died the following day.
A large contingent of Todd’s family were in attendance at the sentencing, with some reading out their victim impact statements to the court.

Rosemary Braithwaite appeared for sentence at the Nelson District Court on Thursday.
Todd’s grand-daughter said she doubted if the family would ever come to terms with the way she died, which “was tragic and could have been avoided”.
“She was selfless, kind and caring, and she had so much life left to live.”
