The Lakeway City Council voted Monday night to extend the winter storm disaster declaration, which will help those applying for financial relief do so more easily, Mayor Sandy Cox said.
Cox called the storm “probably the worst disaster this area has ever experienced in its history” and thanked city staff, first responders and the community for helping the area pull through the crisis.
Cox said the city did not initially declare a disaster because the state and county declarations covered the area. However, Cox did sign a declaration on Feb. 26 to help local business owners and homeowners apply for aid related to the storm. Now that the order has been extended, it will be up to the mayor to rescind it, which Cox said she would do when the state disaster declaration ends.
